TribeFM Teen Excellence Awards in Papua New Guinea
TribeFM, a dedicated youth radio station broadcasting across Papua New Guinea, celebrated its first birthday in August 2016 by giving back to listeners through a teen-only awards program – the TribeFM Teen Excellence Awards.
The Awards recognise young people’s personal achievements and the positive contributions they have made within their community. They also celebrated the achievements of teenagers from across Papua New Guinea who showed personal growth, leadership and a commitment to their community. Award categories were in health and welfare, education, music and arts, community, disability, sport, and business and innovation. There were 91 nominations across Papua New Guinea, spread across the seven categories.
Inspirational stories of teenagers from across PNG were shared right across the country, on-air, and online via Tribe’s Facebook page; publicising the achievements of the young nominees, but also encouraging and inspiring other young people to be equally active and positive in their communities.
The Awards ceremony was held on August 21, 2016 to coincide with the International Youth Day Festival in Port Moresby, and the first anniversary of TribeFM as an independent radio station. The TribeFM Teen Excellence Awards 2016 report below summarises the awards and highlights some notable stories from the many nominations received across Papua New Guinea.
