Papua New Guinea
ABC International Development, Australian aid and the National Broadcasting Corporation of Papua New Guinea (NBC), are working in collaboration to deliver the Media for Development Initiative (MDI). This initiative is an Australian aid project, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
MDI focuses on building, training and strengthening the capacity of the National Broadcasting Corporation of Papua New Guinea, supporting outside broadcasts and remote area visits and generating research and content on the key areas of health, education, gender and governance.
Supporting sustainable development
The aim of the Media for Development Initiative (MDI) is to strengthen the National Broadcasting Corporation’s systems and processes to support operations and public accountability in order to make the country’s national broadcaster a sustainable media organisation.
This initiative gives a voice to Papua New Guinea’s citizens. It provides nationwide access to information, produces media reflecting the country’s culture and delivers development content for the benefit of the people.
By strengthening the National Broadcasting Corporation’s capacity to deliver content on important issues (such as health education and governance), while improving access to information, particularly in rural locations, the Media for Development Initiative helps contribute to the needs and priorities of men, women and children in communities across Papua New Guinea.
